Are you one of the many Americans who made a New Year’s resolution to be healthier in 2016? Don’t forget to include your kids, too! Many kids these days are not getting enough exercise, according to researchers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that kids get at least an hour of physical activity every day.

So, ready to get your family off the couch and on their feet this year? Check out our tips for family fitness to motivate your whole brood to get moving, have fun, and be healthier.

  • Change it up. Do you do the same routine at the gym every day or week? Do your kids really only get exercise in P.E. class or at their sports practices? Whether you’re 6 or 60, too much of the same thing gets boring after a while! Instead of slogging through the same boring workouts, change things up with a new activity for yourself, your kids, or the whole family. Try a new fitness class or bring your kids to Monkey Bizness for hours of bouncing in our indoor playground.
  • Have fun with it. Speaking of our indoor playground, kids will have so much fun playing at Monkey Bizness that they won’t even realize how much exercise they’re getting! You can also make the same old activities new and exciting again by adding a new element. For instance, if you take a family walk or jog every day, turn it into a nature excursion by picking up “specimens” you find along the way, like leaves, stones, or flowers. You could also play a game like “I spy” to liven things up.
  • Remember you’re in it together. Make the resolution to get more active a family commitment and enlist your kids. The more the whole family is on board, the more you will hold each other accountable to get active every single day.
