Whether it is indoors or outdoors Monkey Bizness believes in active play.  Our philosophy is rooted in active play, whether it be in our indoor playgrounds or at the local park.  Encouraging kids to get outdoors and be active is usually easier in the summertime.

Kids today have replaced outdoor play with sedentary pursuits, such as computer-based games, texting or Instagramming, and they are also involved in a lot more knowledge-based downtime, such as homework and studying, compared with other generations –

…enough of the boring stuff.  How can we get kids moving this summer?

  • Be Creative – You don’t always need a giant slide or indoor playground.  For example, a walk can turn into a scavenger hunt, if you draw up a list of things for children to find along the way, such as a fruit tree, a house with a red door or an out-of-state license plate parked in the driveway.
  • Move during TV time – While watching TV as a family, stand up and do the “TV commercial dance” during commercial breaks , and keep moving during the entire break.
  • Go Old School – We all remember TV Tag, Red Light Green Light, and Hide and Go Seek…many of these past time games have either been forgotten or never learned by kids today.  Whether it is indoors or outdoors, kids love playing with their parents and these games are great for all ages.

Carl Nierenberg has these and many more ideas in a great idea at Live Science that can be read here.  And of course, we would love to see you at one of our giant indoor playgrounds this summer….you can even play freeze tag…or reverse tag…or just tag.
